Work and out in Harajuku
Met up with my friend Christian in Harajuku and we checked out a couple agencies. We went to Avocado which is supposed to be a pretty good agency and then headed to Junes which is one of the bigger agencies in Tokyo. Sometimes the fashion in Tokyo can get a little out of control for guys. Saw a guy who was wearing what looked like a dress and had a white purse. While in America the guy would probably get beat up or made fun of. Here in Japan you can be straight and dress like this.

Headed to work like usual. This is another great picture of why Japan is great. Ironing in a dress and heels. No sweat pants in anywhere to be found.

Work and KY
Had work like usual and then home. In an attempt to keep the blog interesting aside from me eating burgers or looking at cool cars I've started and stopped and am now restarting the Words for Wednesday.
Today's word is "KY" meaning "kuuki yomenai" 空気読めない, literally translated as you can't read the air. It's a way to say that people are clueless or do things that are socially awkward. Japanese commonly just say "KY" anytime someone doesn't seem to understand the atmosphere or says something that kills the mood. This is often used to describe one of my friends when we are in a group with girls.

Work and Train Manners
Work like usual today. I'm a little late on the train manner poster this month. This month's is about reminding people to take their umbrellas with them. Rainy Season is starting and many people including myself forget umbrellas on the train. I think I've forgotten at least 3 umbrellas on the train since coming here in 2007.

Work and Tower Burger
Headed to work like usual. I headed home and changed before headed out to Lotteria for the Tower Burger. I met up with 5 friends and we all got Tower Burgers. It was a lot easier than the Windows 7 Whopper. I think it was a lot easier cause the circumference was smaller than the whopper and the cheese between each patty made it easier to eat. I finished the whole thing in under 10 minutes. After it didn't feel I finished it I didn't feel as bad as after the whopper so I think it was less overall. It was actually pretty good and I could be persuaded to try it again.
Anyhow, after that we headed to Dubliners across the street and watched the world cup game on TV before heading home.

Party
Did some laundry and cleaned my place during the day. In the evening I headed out to Ebisu and met up with a friend from work and two girls he knows. We had food and drinks there and then the girls came with me to Tamachi where we met up with Jon and Helene at 82 Ale house. Although we all said we were going home last train, that didn't work out and we headed to a darts bar that Helene knows and the owner was having his birthday. I got to sleep around 3:00am. Good times.

License and work
Got up early today and headed out to Samezu. After the same orientation from last time each of the 13 people there took the test. I was one of three that passed. After passing the test I had to pay 2100 yen and then wait 30 minutes to receive a PIN code for the license. After receiving my code I headed downstairs to the picture room and got my picture taken. Once the picture is taken it takes about an hour to make the actual license so I headed across the street for Sukiya. When I got back I waited a bit longer and then got my license. The final step was to take the license and put it on a IC card reader to check that the data registered with the card matches up in the database. With my new Japanese driver's license I headed home and then worked in the evening like usual.

Headed to Shinjuku this morning where I met up with my friend Mike and his friend Steve who is visiting Japan. Steve ordered a custom tailored suit when he got here so we all went to pick it up. After that we walked around Shinjuku checking out different places and got lunch at Freshness Burger.
In the evening I had work like usual and got Ootoya for dinner. Love that place.

Graduation Ceremony
Headed to the Shinagawa Prince Hotel today for the Graduation Ceremony. Although I graduated a while ago, the ceremony is only held once a year. I pretty much just went for the free food since I don't really feel that the piece of paper (degree) I got which is basically a permission slip to work was a good investment. They had a ton of food too. It was awesome. Then after some friends and I went to Fridays for some reason and then headed home around 11 cause most people worked the next day.

Work and party
Headed to work like usual. The one guy at work got shoes that allow for individual movement of toes which apparently double your running speed. They are crazy! Then in the evening I headed to a party at my friend's house in Yotsuya. There were about 20 people there and it was a birthday/leaving Japan party.

Driving test and work
Got up early today and headed to Samezu with all my paperwork for my driving test. It was cool cause on the train this morning I saw the commercial with me on the train. Anyhow, I got to the test center and checked in. All the foreigners are put in a group since we are all changing from a foreign licence to a Japanese licence. The course is a little different from the Japanese course in that it's simpler since everyone should already ave more than 6 months of driving experience in America. After an explanation from the instructor we each took turns driving a 2004 Lancer through the course. If you want a licence that allows you to drive manual transmission you have to take the test on a manual car. You get to ride in the back for the test of the person taking it before you to get a feel for the track.
If you don't pass you get a yellow slip are told what you did wrong and then you can reschedule to retake it. I did ok, but kept on hitting the windshield wipers when trying to signal for turns and took the corners faster than the evaluator would have liked. I rescheduled for next week and headed home. In the evening I had work like usual.
